Fantastic video. Thank you. I am super happy with my Tenere World raid for long distance touring and some light off-roading. But I would never imagine taking it for serious Enduro type off-roading. While it's only 72 horsepower, it still weighs just under 500 pounds. That's a lot of bike to lift

Does anyone happen to know where I might find some photo's from the Pajinka Wilderness Lodge BEFORE it was abandoned? Searches turn up pretty much nothing useful. It's not the 100+hp. It's the 200+kg. IMO they're not off road touring bikes either. They're road bikes than can cope with some unsealed roads. I used to have a Cagiva Elefant and that's what that was to me: a road bike.

Excellent video mate. Very entertaining as usual love the way you piece together all the highlights. yep it is the land of high Adventure alright one of my favourite places. Spent a month there after the previous OCR exploring every track I was allowed on amazing place. It is where the rally convinced me of its capabilities, fully loaded and solo it just walked over everything much easier then my DR and definitely much easier then my BM 1150 😅. Even the soft bulldust of the Starkle and the goldfields track did not faze it much, what an amazing little bike. Not much fun to dewater though, thankfully it only happened once. Love ❤️ the way you sent the canary to the Starkle track lol

I stopped just 2 mins into this to ask what special techniques might be used when a bike go down under water? I know you got to get it out ASAP but is there any preferred method to help get her up/going again? SO I'm back for part 2 of my post; unbelievable footage of beautiful places & I couldn't make it thru day one of that place. Some hard riders/tough too. Makes the DRz400 shine & I like it for simplicity. Don't need a lot of electronics on your bike, the only one I might want for the street side of riding is an ABS system but just on the streets. Great video peace

If it hasn't sucked water into the cylinder, you may need to drain water from carburettor and get it started. If it has sucked water in, you may need to remove the spark plug, remove and dry the air filter, drain the water from the airbox and exhaust and then try to start it. You may have water mixed with the oil which will need to be changed as soon as possible. The DRZ400 hire bikes have been specially set-up for speedy recovery after a drowning.

I'll be evaluating all bikes until I've got the money to buy but the DRz400 hangs right in the top of my list. I've never dumped a bike but I've seen a few go under but never knew the lengths they went thru to fix it? The faster it's dealt with the better & what I saw here, they might have needed to squeeze out the filter but I know all those bikes were taken care of by the staff working the ride. Quite an impressive event. Never heard of nice rides over such distance and providing the bikes/staff to make it all nice. That was really a cool thing to see.... better to experience but I got the idea... peace

My first adventure bike....Honda Africa Twin. The first time it fell over and I had to pick it up I thought to myself "Opps...I think I made a mistake." I am mostly a road rider with no off road experience. I've decided to get a Honda crf 250 and learn to off road on it until I have the skills to move up to my Africa Twin. I think the ideal size is probably a 450 cc - 650 cc size bike, with a larger fuel tank, at least 5.5 gallons, and some protection on it. These bikes / tires are by their very nature a compromise, road vs off road, it's a compromise that you have to do your best with selecting the right bike. I respect your selection of the Honda crf 300 rally but it's weakness is anything over 50 mph, so even your ultimate decision is one of compromise.

  • @DavidDacaro

Quick thoughts from a guy who has both bikes. I got the 500 because the 300L almost killed me more than once in technical, exposed dirt situations. The 500 is incredibly safe comparably because of the weight/handling and power on technical terrain. What y'all were riding here is perfect for the 300L. If that's all I rode, I'd be fine riding the 300L. But, what I typically ride on for ADV trips in the Western US puts me in genuine sketchy, technical situations, so I love the 500, it's a freaking scalpel. Last year on Engineer's pass, a rocky, bumpy and at times exposed trail in the Rocky mountains, my buddy and I on really old 520 and 450 KTM's blew by 6 riders on their crf300l's (a 300L club?). We were riding at a light racing pace to meet folks at a pickup point we were late for, while the 300L's were granny-piddling along at super low speeds trying not to crash in the technical stuff. I'm just an amateur rider, FYI, my buddy says a "slow c class". I felt worried for the guys on the 300Ls thinking it was dumb to put those bikes on that trail. To be fair, I was assuming none had upgraded their suspension, which changes a lot. There's a youtuber with a k-tech suspension upgrade (and ecu too I think) who rips his 300L in the dirt like a champ. I'm not him but if you're an awesome rider, then maybe like Chris Birch on his 890, you can upgrade the 300L, have the reliability, and push it a bit in the dirt too up to it's power limits at least. Having said that, my damn 500 engine just blew up at 6K miles, and KTM says it's too many highway miles (I put maybe 500 on it over it's life, but probably did 20 or so rides with 30 min between 70-80mph, seems like nothing?!). For KTM America, highway miles more than just a few between trails in the slow lane is a no no on a 500. So, I think the 500 is leagues above the 300l in every way except now the one that counts, reliability. Breaking down in the middle of no where solo because of a delicate, high performance engine is no longer an option. The relatively dangerous, boring, gutless (in technical stuff where you need torque down low) 300L is going to be the albatross that I now have to wear and it hurts but it's the best ultra light weight "miles bike", which I guess I need for reliability, after the discontinuation of the WR's.... man the 500 is soooooo much better and fun and able, sooo much. Crap!

When I was about 12 my friend had a Honda 90 trail bike and we had a blast riding it all over the badlands of eastern Montana. So when I started looking for a bike I was wondering about the 250-350 class dual sports and if they wouldn’t be better. I never thought about the power but the weight savings and lower COG gave me pause. I guess I will have another look at the smaller ones again.
